Yummy Mummy
A Tribute to Special Yummy MummiesEver since I started MummyNetwork, I’ve wanted to write a little something about special Yummy Mummies who are constantly making a big difference to our community and to the world as a whole. These special people in my eyes, range from celebrities to politicians to working women to the next door neighbour who in some way helps our society. I believe that women have tremendous power to strike that perfect work-family life balance and do a fantastic job at both. We at MummyNetwork want to recognise and thank these mothers who go out of their way to make the world a better place. If you know of any such mother and would like them to feature here in the Yummy Mummy page, please email me at links@mummynetwork.co.uk We will constantly put up features here on these special Yummy Mummies, so watch out for that! Angelina JolieThe first mother to be featured as our special Yummy Mummy is none other than the academy award winning actress - Angelina Jolie. Whether she is playing an action-hero or a supermodel she definitely leaves us amazed both with her movies and her personal life. Apart from being as actress, Angelina Jolie is a globe-trotting UN goodwill ambassador and mother of four children. She adopted her first child Maddox, a 7½-month-old baby boy from Cambodia, the country she fell in love with while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Jolie adopted her second child Zahara along with her partner Brad Pitt from Ethiopia. Her third child Shiloh, she conceived with Brad Pitt and adopted her fourth child, Paz Thien recently from Vietnam. Angelina Jolie accepted the United Nations Global Humanitarian Action Award in October 2005 for her work as a goodwill ambassador: "Second to my children, spending time with refugees and other persons of need around the world has been the greatest gift. After my first trip to a refugee camp, I made a promise that I would try to help others to understand everything that I was fortunate enough to witness," the Associated Press reports. She also said that she hoped to live up to the personal vow she made when she became a goodwill ambassador four years ago, to do everything possible to help refugees all over the world because "they deserve every bit of our effort." In addition to all this great work she’s doing for her family and the less fortunate, in December 2005,Jolie earned her pilot's license. "Every time Mad sees a plane, he's amazed," Jolie says to PEOPLE Magazine. "If I could actually fly a plane by the time he's 4, I'll be like Superman to him." Angelina Jolie is without doubt one of our top Yummy Mummies, We hope she continues to support and help more children in the future. Kelly RipaIf you watch a lot of American Television or read US magazines, you would undoubtedly be familiar with Kelly Ripa the dynamo who costars with Regis Philbin on Live! With Regis and Kelly and who played Hayley on ABC’s All My Children. She also plays Faith in the US hit comedy ‘Hope and Faith’. Kelly Ripa turns heads with her appealing looks, but it’s her infectious personality that makes people remember her and tune in for more. She is married to actor Mark Consuelos. They have 3 children - Michael Joseph, Lola Grace and Joaquin Antonio. Apart from being a working mother, Kelly Ripa was also involved in the Angel Soft Angels in Action® Awards, created by Georgia Pacific, a national campaign that rewarded children who perform exemplary acts of service to benefit their community, a charity or cause. Angel Soft awarded $100,000 to children who set positive examples for their peers. On being asked by iParenting magazine on how the program inspired her, this is what she said - “I think, you lead by example....your kids, if they see you getting involved in local organisations. You don’t have to invent your own; you can volunteer at a soup kitchen, volunteer at a local hospital. These are things that we all do, and it shouldn’t be considered charity. It’s not charity work. It’s work that if I were sick and I was in the hospital and I was alone, I would hope that somebody would come and see me. You know people, when they’re ill, or you know when their chips are down, they don’t want to be forgotten. Nobody wants to be forgotten. Humanity is humanity, you know. And I think one of the reasons our country is great is because for the most part, nobody gets left behind, or we try so that nobody gets left behind. And that’s all you can do is try. You just try your best and instill a sense of values and a sense of obligation and a sense of selflessness in a world where everybody wants to get ahead.” This is so true. I believe that we can all make a big difference if we take that small step in our community. Its up to us parents to ensure that we teach our little ones to look out for the people around them. Small steps make a huge difference. |
