The following guidelines should help you select the safest possible high chairs and carry cots for your baby.

High Chairs

The most dangerous risk associated with high chairs is falls. To minimise the risk of your baby falling check the following:

  • Select a chair with a wide base so that it cannot be tipped over if someone accidentally bumps against it.
  • If the chair folds, ensure that the locking device is secure each time you set it up.
  • Strap your baby in with the safety strap whenever he sits in the chair and never allow him to stand in the high chair.
  • Make sure that you don’t place the high chair near a counter or table. Your baby may be able to push hard enough against these surfaces and tip the chair over.
  • Never leave your child unattended in the high chair and don’t allow older children to climb or play in it as it could tip over.
  • A high chair that hooks on to a table is not a substitute for a more solid one. However if you plan to use one of these when you travel or eat out, then look for one that locks on to the table. Be sure that the table is heavy enough to support your baby’s weight without tipping.

Baby Feeding is a critical part of raising a baby, so find the right high chair to help you in this process.

Carry Cots

Use care in selecting a Carry Cot. Check the weight guidelines provided by the manufacturer and never use the Carry Cot after your baby has outgrown it. Here are a few safety guidelines:

  • Never use a carry cot as a substitute for a car seat. Carry Cots are designed only for propping a baby up.
  • Always use the strap and harness when your baby is in the seat.
  • Choose a seat with an outside frame so that your baby can sit deeply inside. Also ensure that the base is wide as it is difficult to tip over.
  • Always carry your baby securely strapped into the seat and use both your arms under the frame to hold it.
  • The most serious injuries associated with carry cots occur when a baby falls from a high surface. So always keep the seat on floor level. Even there an active baby can tip the seat over, so try and place the carry cot on a carpeted area and away from any sharp-edged furniture. Carry cots can also tip over when placed on soft surfaces like beds or couches.

You can select from a great range of Carry Cots recommended by the MummyNetwork.
