Safety checklist at your baby’s daycare
A very Happy New Year to all the Yummy Mummies. Hope 2007 brings you and your family success, happiness and good health. If this is the year that you are going back to work after your maternity leave and you are considering putting your little one in a daycare you might want to make sure that the facility is safe, clean and in good condition. Here is a list of additional things you might want to check. If there is a problem, you should bring it to the attention of the caregiver. Indoors 1. The floors are smooth, clean and have a nonskid surface. 2. Climbers are mounted over impact-absorbent surfaces. 3. All medicines, first-aid kits, cleaning agents and tools are out of the babies’ reach. 4. Walls and ceilings are clean and in good condition without leakages. 5. Children are never left unattended and always watched with an ideal baby/staff ratio of 3:1. 6. Toys are safe with no lead, chipping paint or rust. 7. High chairs, bouncers and swings have safety belts. 8. The area is well child proofed with all electrical outlets being covered with childproof caps. 9. Heating pipes and radiators are out of reach so babies cannot touch them. 10. There are no harmful plants or disease bearing pet animals. 11. Trash containers are covered. 12. Practiced fire plan incase of fire with exits clearly marked. 13. No smoking permitted in the facility. 14. Windows are securely screened and protected. Outdoors 1. Playgrounds are free of litter, sharp objects, and animal droppings. 2. Play equipments are smooth, well anchored and free of rust and sharp corners. 3. Swings are lightweight and flexible. 4. Slides have flat, wide, stable steps with good treads and a flat area at the end of the slide to help children slow down. 5. Sandboxes are covered when not in use. |
