Some surprising things that your baby needs

However devoted we Yummy Mummies are it is sometimes not uncommon to overlook certain things that our baby needs. Here’s what you should give your baby:

1. More sleep: Most parents guess that their baby needs about 8-12 hours of sleep per day. However studies have showed that a baby needs more like 14-16 hours of sleep per day including naps up to the age of 1. It is really important that your baby gets some quality uninterrupted sleep. So think twice about waking you little one for his aunt’s visit. Setting a sleep pattern from when the baby is 6 months old is a good way to make sure that she’s getting enough rest.

2. Playtime with daddy: Mummies are very delicate with their babies. They love playing peek-a-boo and gentle games. Dads do a great job in bringing some giggling and fun time with some rough play. They lift the baby up in the air and have some roller coaster fun. Research shows that some bouncing and moving around is a good exercise for your little one’s muscle development and also helps develop her sense of balance and coordination.

3. Discipline: Babies after the age of 6 months do need a little bit of discipline. By establishing boundaries, you introduce your child to reality. Of course by no means ever hit, shake or harm your child physically, but its ok to speak firmly if the situation calls for it. Its ok for instance to put your baby in her cot and leave the room even if he cries. He will get used to it in a couple of days and will enjoy sleeping on his own soon. Good discipline makes stronger families.

4. Some alone time:Its great for your baby to spend sometime on his own when he’s in his bouncer or lying in his crib watching his mobile. A baby learns a lot from his downtime like how to entertain and soothe himself.

5. Moving away from bland foods: Bland purees of fruits and vegetables are a great way to introduce solids to your baby. But after a few months your child will love it if you start giving her a variety of foods, exposing her to different tastes and textures by the time she’s one. Introduce new types of food, she will soon love it.
